Hyde Lake is fishing extraordinarily well. Hyde lake is located on the Yamsi Ranch in Southern Oregon.

Be sure to take your 6-weight rod because the trout are big and feisty! I use a 1X leader and 2X tippet. Even with such a heavy tippet, I had one trout so big he snapped the tippet in half.

Day 1 – The water temperature was 60 degrees F with flat, sunny conditions in morning, and a slight ripple in the afternoon. The bite started at 9 AM and I observed signs of feeding fish. Many were sipping midge pupa from the surface. Fish were concentrated along weed lines and scattered through the lake. The bite was strong until 1:30 PM and then died off. At dusk in front of the boat ramp, another angler caught four trout within a short period of time on a midge pattern.

Presentation: I used my Cortland Clear Camo Intermediate Sink Line and allowed the fly to sink for 10 seconds. I trolled slowly, stopping to strip. Trout hit the fly on the strip.

Flies: I used my Burgundy Grizzly Bug in the morning, and my Black UV Midge in the afternoon.

This big girl took me into my backing. I landed her with my Black UV Midge

When black ants showed up in the afternoon, I wished I had had my floating line with me. For a brief time, trout ignored me and focused on devouring these oversize black ants.

Day 2 – Conditions completely changed. Under cloudy skies, a blustery cold SW wind blew hard across the surface often whipping up white caps. The bite began again at 9 AM. I used three different colors of my Predator Bugger: black, burgundy, and olive. All colors were effective because of the low light conditions.
