Perfect for hunting big fish cruising shallow shorelines
My Predator Minnow’s sleek profile incorporates UV predator flash with fox and marabou tails to create a distinctive streamer pattern irresistible to large trout and bass.
After you have fished the Predator Minnow for as many years as I have, you will have experienced the adrenaline spike when big fish slam the Predator Minnow. Be prepared with stout tippets because the takes may be aggressive. You don’t want to break off when a large trout attacks!
How to Fish: Fish the Predator Minnow when targeting trout during low light conditions – the first few hours before the sun hits the water and just before sunset. Target shallow shorelines, weed beds, underwater structure, or along rocky ledges where the big fish hunt for small fish and minnows. I prefer using an intermediate 7-foot sink tip line because it maintains the fly in the top two feet where minnows are located. Use short, 4-inch, quick and jerky retrieves.
When large brook, brown, cutthroat, tiger, and rainbow trout are cruising close to shoreline edges, this is the perfect opportunity to use this pattern.
While all colors are productive, the yellow Predator Minnow has proven especially effective in the fall months when brown trout spawn.
During the summer, large bass inhaled the UV Predator Minnow when fished close to aquatic plants near the shoreline where minnows were located.
Gambusia minnows, also known as the western mosquito fish, hang near the shoreline to avoid being preyed upon by bass.
